Welcome to Youth Deafinitions! We're run BY deaf young people FOR deaf young people and developing lots of different project ideas. Our main aim is to give deaf youth more opportunities to be leaders, and to be involved in more activities - to learn and enjoy. See our 'Vision' in the "about us" tab. Hope you enjoy looking at the photos of things we've been doing so far. BSL Videos for all the words on here will be coming soon!
Hands of Time 2010 - 2011 An amazing project, funded by MediaTrust, was to allow deaf community members to have a voice. With deaf young people and adults, 'Hands of Time' was created – a visual representation of the barriers and frustrations faced by deaf people with a positive outlook for the future. (photos)
Yorkshire SignFilm Festival 2010 A few new short films are being screened in Bradford - they’re not the old-fashioned “silent films”, but many don’t have any sound to them. Why not? Because these films are made by and for deaf young people! Most only use British Sign Language and have English subtitles available, but other than that, they’re very similar to short films that any other young person would make. We have a dance-off with ‘hoodies’, vampires and romance, nightmares at school, and a mess-up on a school trip (read more).
Ruby Gloves 2010 A group of deaf young people put on a BSL panto in January 2010 - a 'deaf' version of the 'Wizard of Oz'. They did a great job. Other Deaf students came to watch and really enjoyed it too! (photos)
Yorkshire SignFilm Festival 2009 By May 2009, six different deaf youth groups had produced their first short film. These films were screened at the first official Yorkshire SignFilm Festival in the National Media Museum in Bradford (read more). |
